Due to its old civilization and rich culture, Iran is a great place to buy handicrafts. Some of most important Iranian handicrafts are as follows:

Khatam

khatam kari is Delicate and meticulous marquetry utilized to decorate things such as jewellery/decorative boxes, chessboards, cadres,pipes, desks, frames or some musical instruments.. this handicraft is made of thin sticks of wood (ebony, teak, ziziphus, orange, rose), brass (for golden parts), camel bones (white parts). Ivory, gold or silver can also be used to make khatam.

Persian carpet and rug: carpet (in Persian farsh or ghali)

Carpet is an essential part of Iranian art and culture. Iran is also the world's largest producer and exporter of handmade carpets, producing three quarters of the world's total output. Iranian(Persian) carpets are available in many designs, sizes, colors and can be made from wool or silk or a combination of both. Designs and patterns can vary as each region of the country has its own variation and custom of weaving. The women of nomadic tribes living in the plains mainly weave Kilims.

Mina kari

Mina kari is one of the most traditional handicrafts of Iran and its origin dates back to around 2000 B.C. Mina, is defined as some sort of glasslike colored coat which can be stabilized by heat on different metals particularly copper. This handicrfat is mainly made in Isfahan.

Iranian (Persian) Pottery

Pottery is one of the oldest handicrafts of iran  and its history  goes back to early Neolithic Age. Of the thousands of archeological sites and historic ruins of Iran, almost every single one can be found to have been filled, at some point, with earthenware of exceptional quality.

Now, Maybod in Yazd is one of the main centers of pottery in Iran.
